Borne desk is a final year project done within a collaboration project of Scanteak and NAFA for final year students. The brief was given to design a home furniture within 3 different activities inside the house such as resting, living, and studying. In this project, Studying activity is chosen to be the research topic.
The desk design is initiated with a question in mind, “How to design a furniture that provide an adaptable functions to fulfil the lifetime needs of a contemporary family in terms of studying and working”. Borne desk is designed as a furniture which not only functional, but also bring a closer relation within the users.
Made out of teak wood, the desk could adapt within the need of the family in a long period of use.
While houses are getting smaller, now having a study room is becoming a luxury. Living room as the heart of the home is chosen as the best alternative to place the desk. It’s align with the concept of Borne desk which focusing on the family relationship through learning and studying together.

Within a small living spaces, having a study room is now becoming a luxury. Study desk might be placed outside the room in some houses.
An adaptable study desk for parents and children would allow them to save space as well as create a better learning environment for the children.
